Arleen Sorkin
Biography
Arleen Sorkin was an American actress, comedian, screenwriter and television presenter who started in cabaret during the late 1970s and early 1980s with the comedy group The High-Heeled Women. She became known for playing Calliope Jones on Days of Our Lives from 1984 to 1990, with return visits in later years, and Geneva on the Fox series Duet from 1987 to 1989. She was the original female co-host of America's Funniest People in 1990. Her writing included Tiny Toon Adventures and the screenplay for Picture Perfect. Sorkin inspired and voiced Harley Quinn, co-created by Paul Dini for Batman: The Animated Series; she reprised the role in several DC Animated Universe shows and the animated movie Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (2000). Her last performances as Harley Quinn were in the video games Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009) plus DC Universe Online (2011). She also performed as a caller on Frasier.

Big break
Sorkin was the inspiration for Harley Quinn: her friend Paul Dini saw her play a jester in a Days of Our Lives dream sequence and patterned the character on her mannerisms and bubbly blonde personality.
A first
Harley Quinn first showed up in the Batman: The Animated Series episode "Joker's Favor" and was supposed to be in just one episode. Viewers liked the character and Sorkin's voice work, so Quinn became a regular on the show.
First role
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Sorkin launched her career performing cabaret as one of the members of The High-Heeled Women, a comedy group that also included Mary Fulham, Tracey Berg, and Cassandra Danz.
