Plot summary
Milwaukee best friends Coop and Remer crash a college graduation party and get the cold shoulder from former classmates. Outside, they shoot hoops and invent a game mixing basketball with baseball, making up rules as they go. With their friend Squeak, they refine the sport, and it catches on in the neighborhood. Businessman Ted Denslow proposes a National BASEketball League with strict rules: no team relocations, no player trades, no corporate sponsorships, and open tryouts for anyone. Coop agrees. Five years on, the league is a major attraction with its own championship, the Denslow Cup. Denslow owns the Milwaukee Beers, the team Coop and Remer play for. Baxter Cain, who owns the Dallas Felons, wants to scrap those rules so owners can profit. Coop refuses to budge, and Cain searches for a way to make the Beers lose.

- In response to a negative review from Roger Ebert, Parker and Stone named the eleventh episode of South Park's second season "Roger Ebert Should Lay Off the Fatty Foods".
- BASEketball was originally intended as a television series, with a pilot episode filmed starring Chris Rock; Zucker then transitioned to film and wanted Chris Farley for the lead role, but instead cast Parker and Stone after the success of South Park.
- BASEketball is credited with coining the Internet slang term "derp", which Parker and Stone later referenced in South Park's third season episode "The Succubus", where Chef is replaced by Mr. Derp.
- Yasmine Bleeth and Jenny McCarthy were nominated at the 1998 Golden Raspberry Awards for Worst Actress and Worst Supporting Actress; Bleeth lost to the Spice Girls for Spice World, and McCarthy lost to Maria Pitillo for Godzilla.
