Plot summary
A promotion and his boss's respect are what Chester Lee is after, so he invents a youth as a fine soccer player. The story lands him the job of coaching the Ladybugs, his company's girls' team, with Julie as his assistant. Chester expects a league dynasty, but only one player comes back, and the newcomers, among them the boss's daughter Kimberly, have never played; his boss wants results by the time his vacation ends. Chester is engaged to Bess, whose son Matthew is a strong player kept off his own team by poor grades. Chester admits he knows nothing about soccer and asks Matthew for help, then talks him into joining the Ladybugs in a dress under the name Martha. Matthew agrees partly because he has a crush on Kimberly. Only Chester and Julie share the secret.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Ladybugs (1992)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Both Jonathan Brandis and Leonardo DiCaprio auditioned for the role of Matthew, and the producers went with Brandis because DiCaprio looked too convincing in drag, which they felt killed the joke.
- Paramount struggled with how to market the film and considered changing the title, because Ladybugs clashed with Dangerfield's image as a profane comic.
- Sidney J. Furie came to the film through producer Andre Morgan, who pitched it as similar in concept to The Bad News Bears. Furie accepted the directing job more out of a desire to work than anything else, and called it one of the best paid jobs of his career.
- Tommy Lasorda, then manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, has a cameo in the film, as do Blake Clark and longtime Dangerfield friend Chuck McCann.
