Plot summary
Twenty-three days after the snap, Carol Danvers brings Tony Stark and Nebula home from deep space, and they join Bruce Banner, Steve Rogers, Thor, Natasha Romanoff, James Rhodes and Rocket. Five years later, Scott Lang climbs out of the Quantum Realm to find his daughter Cassie a teenager and Hope van Dyne gone. Rogers leads grief counseling for survivors of the snap, and Romanoff keeps watch over Earth and the universe beyond. Only five hours passed for him while five years passed outside, he tells Romanoff and Rogers, and the Quantum Realm might carry them back in time. They bring the idea to Stark, who is raising a child with Pepper Potts and refuses to risk his family.

- Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have said that Robert Downey Jr. was the only actor on the production to receive the entire screenplay for Avengers: Endgame.
- Avengers co-creator Stan Lee appears in a posthumous cameo, digitally de-aged to play a car driver in 1970; it was the final film appearance of his career.
- Chris Hemsworth underwent around three hours of hair and makeup for Thor's transformation in the film, which also required him to wear a large silicone prosthetic suit, and he called himself "Lebowski Thor" on set.
