Plot summary
Walter Lee Younger drives a limousine in 1959 Chicago and shares a tiny apartment with his wife Ruth, their son Travis, his sister Beneatha and his mother Lena. The family is waiting for a $10,000 life insurance check after Walter Lee's father dies. Walter Lee wants to put the money into a liquor store he would run with Bobo. Beneatha intends to pay her medical school tuition, and she has also accepted a date with George Murchison, a prosperous neighbor. Lena, who has just quit her job, would rather buy a house she and her late husband Walter Lee Sr. dreamed of. Ruth is pregnant and worried about the expense.
