15 Minutes (2001) on Netflix

Plot summary

A burned apartment brings together Jordy Warsaw, a fire marshal who handles arson, and Eddie Flemming, a high-profile detective whose girlfriend Nicolette Karas reports for the tabloid show Top Story. The fire hides a killing: Emil Slovák and Oleg Razgul, ex-convicts from Eastern Europe, came to New York to collect their part of a bank heist and were turned away by their old partner Milos Karlova, whom Emil stabbed along with Karlova's wife Tamina while Oleg filmed. Daphne Handlova, a Czech immigrant, saw the attack from the bathroom and got away. The two investigators take the case together, and Oleg keeps his camera running, drawn to the idea that American television can make a killer rich.
