Plot summary
Romantic compatibility in this near future is a measurement: a computerized test can say how likely two people are to make a partnership work. Synthetics, androids built to be ideal partners, are completely understanding and never leave, and each one is programmed to know what it is. Zoe works at the research facility that develops all of this, alongside her friend Cole, and she has a crush on him. She takes the compatibility test to see what it says about the two of them, and the answer is zero percent. The result disappoints her, and she brings it to Cole.
