Plot summary
Long ago the Amazons, a warrior race of women, fought Ares, the god of war. Zeus stopped Hippolyta from killing him and had him bound in magic bracers that rob him of the strength he takes from slaughter. Hera gave the Amazons the island of Themyscira, where they stay young forever, apart from men, as his jailers. Hippolyta shaped a daughter, Diana, from the island's sand and brought her to life with her own blood. A thousand years on, Diana is restless and wants to see the world beyond Themyscira. Steve Trevor, an American fighter pilot, goes down in a dogfight and lands on Themyscira. Diana fights and defeats him, and the Amazons question him with the lasso of truth. Hippolyta judges him no enemy, and tradition demands an envoy see him safely home.
