Plot summary
In 3028 the Drej, a hostile species made of pure energy, attack Earth out of fear of the Titan Project. Sam Tucker, a researcher on the project, leaves his young son Cale with his Vusstran friend Tek and escapes aboard the spaceship Titan, giving the boy a gold ring. The Drej destroy the planet and the human survivors scatter through space as refugees. Fifteen years later Cale works in the salvage yard of the space station Tau 14, where the ex-military officer Joseph Korso finds him and offers him a place aboard the Valkyrie. Korso explains that the ring carries a map to the Titan, a ship that can build a new world. Among the crew are the pilot Akima Kunimoto, the first mate Preed, the weapons officer Stith and the astronomer Gune. The Drej also want the Titan.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Titan A.E. (2000)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Ten days before its theatrical release, Titan A.E. became the first major motion picture shown in end-to-end digital cinema, projected simultaneously to audiences in Atlanta and Los Angeles after being sent between the two venues over a VPN from Fox's production facilities.
- Former Fox executive Chris Meledandri, who later founded Illumination and oversaw the film's production, said Titan A.E. lost the studio $100 million.
- During production Fox Animation Studios suffered cutbacks that led to its closure in 2000: over 300 animation staff were laid off in 1999, and much of the film's animation was outsourced to several independent studios as a result.
- The voice cast originally included Hank Azaria and Lena Olin, but both dropped out over scheduling conflicts, and John Leguizamo joined the film to take over a role.
- Joss Whedon, under a multi-picture deal with 20th Century Fox, was brought on to do a final pass on the script.
