Plot summary
Harry Rawlings and his crew die in Chicago when their getaway van explodes during a police standoff, after they rob crime boss Jamal Manning of $2 million. Jamal visits Veronica, Harry's widow, and gives her two weeks to repay the money; he needs it to fund his campaign for alderman against Jack Mulligan, whose family has held the seat for decades. Veronica gets hold of a notebook Harry left behind. It holds a plan to steal $5 million from the Mulligan house. She brings the idea to the other widows: Linda, who has lost her store, and Alice, whose mother urges her to work as an escort. Amanda, the fourth widow, has a new baby and does not join them. Linda and Alice agree to help.
