Plot summary
Earl Briggs drives Mickey Haller around Los Angeles County in a black Lincoln Town Car, which serves as his office. He takes the clients nobody else wants, among them Eddie Vogel, who leads a biker gang. Maggie McPherson, Haller's ex-wife and a district attorney, is the mother of his daughter and disapproves of the company he keeps. Then comes Louis Roulet, a Beverly Hills playboy whose mother, Mary Windsor, built a real estate fortune. He is charged with beating a prostitute, Regina Campo. Haller and his investigator, Frank Levin, go through the photographs and reports and find lines that run back to an old case of Haller's, the one that convicted Jesus Martinez of killing a prostitute.
