Plot summary
Waxie Moon is a burlesque performer and a gender-blending celebrity in Seattle. Waxie is addicted to romance, dresses to kill, and is forever ready to fall in love with the right man. The search takes several forms: online dating, an affair in the 1950s kept out of sight, and a journey to the underworld. Motherhood brings ordeals of its own. The film is a musical with original songs and dance sequences, and its genre changes to match Waxie's social standing and emotional state, moving among comedy, drama and fantasy. The movement and blocking are highly stylized, and costumes and makeup supply several hundred looks.
