Plot summary
In a near future, a wrist implant called a TiMER counts down to the day its wearer meets a soulmate. Oona O'Leary, a Los Angeles orthodontist, has a blank one: her match has no TiMER. Approaching her thirtieth birthday, she brings a boyfriend to be implanted, and their TiMERs do not match. Her stepsister and roommate Steph has more than fifteen years on hers, and fills the wait with one-night stands. Oona drifts toward Mikey, a young grocery store clerk with only months left, who tells her to live in the present. Steph meets Dan, a Los Angeles newcomer whose wife died and who does not wear a TiMER because he believes she was the one.
