Plot summary
Mayrant Sidneye owns Batjak Limited, a shipping company in the East Indies, and Captain Ralls commands its flagship, the Red Witch. The two men are rivals, and both once loved the same woman, Angelique Desaix. The sinking of the Red Witch is no accident: Ralls takes the ship down with five million dollars in gold bullion aboard, and Batjak drops its charge of barratry against him. Ralls and his first mate, Sam Rosen, take work on a fishing schooner and sail after a treasure map to an island that appears on no chart, where Sidneye is waiting for them. The map was a ploy to bring Ralls to a place where Sidneye could deal with him.
