Gail Russell
Biography
Gail Russell was an American film and television actress who moved to the Los Angeles area as a teenager. Paramount Pictures signed her to a long-term contract in 1942 when she was 18, and she made her debut at 19 in Henry Aldrich Gets Glamour (1943). She had a key role opposite Ray Milland in The Uninvited (1944), a big success, and followed it with Our Hearts Were Young and Gay (1944). She co-starred with Alan Ladd in Salty O'Rourke (1945) and appeared in The Unseen (1945). Studio loans brought her leading roles in Angel and the Badman (1947) with John Wayne, Moonrise (1948), and Wake of the Red Witch (1948), a hit. She later returned to the screen in Seven Men from Now (1956) with Randolph Scott, which was praised, and appeared in The Tattered Dress (1957). Her final film was The Silent Call (1961), and she died that year.
