Plot summary
On the machine world Cybertron, sentient robots are powered by Energon, and those without transformation cogs labor in mines. In Iacon, Orion Pax, a miner without a transformation cog, sneaks into an archive to study the first Primes; his friend D-16 helps him escape. After a cave-in in the mine, their actions save fellow miner Jazz, but their supervisor Elita-1 is blamed and demoted. When Sentinel Prime returns without the lost Matrix of Leadership, he holds a race to raise morale. Orion enters himself and D-16 illegally; they narrowly lose. Sent to garbage incineration, they meet B-127 and find a distress message from Alpha Trion. Orion convinces D-16, B-127, and Elita-1 to travel to the surface to investigate.

- Transformers One originally included a scene depicting Megatron as a gladiator so he and Optimus Prime would come from completely different backgrounds, but it was scrapped over runtime constraints and the two became coworkers in the mines instead.
- After Transformers One underperformed, Hasbro announced on November 20, 2024 that it would no longer co-finance film adaptations of its properties, leaving external studios to fund such projects exclusively.
- Longtime Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen was deliberately not brought back so audiences would feel the character's youth, and Chris Hemsworth was cast instead; Cullen then consulted with Hemsworth during production on the voice and mannerisms.
- Transformers One was Chris Hemsworth's first animated feature film, and he joined the project after being impressed with the screenplay.
- To make the Transformers feel more human and connect with audiences, the team at Industrial Light & Magic was instructed to make them more emotive, keeping their faces uncovered more often and making their eyes more expressive.
- Scarlett Johansson was approached to voice Elita by Chris Hemsworth, who texted her upon joining the project himself; the two had previously worked together in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
