Plot summary
In Kenya, Eliza Thornberry is left in charge of a family of cheetah cubs by their mother, Akela. When Eliza wanders too far from home, poachers in a helicopter carry off one of the cubs, Tally. Eliza wants to go after the cub, so her strict grandmother, Cordelia, takes her to a boarding school in London to keep her safe. Darwin, her chimpanzee, has hidden in her suitcase, and his attempts to blend in land them both in trouble. Eliza's parents, Nigel and Marianne, are away filming a solar eclipse at Tembo Valley. Debbie, Eliza's older sister, stays behind at the family's RV, the Comvee, with their feral younger brother, Donnie.
