Beyond film
From 1981 to 1996, Peters provided the voice of Darth Vader in National Public Radio's radio versions of the first three Star Wars movies.
Beyond film
Peters sang background vocals on Harry Belafonte's 1956 hit "Day-O" and led the chorus at the recording sessions for Belafonte's Calypso album that same year.
A change of course
Peters toured with the Leonard DePaur Infantry Chorus as a civilian member from 1945 to 1947, and after landing that spot he officially quit CCNY.
First role
In 1949 Peters auditioned and won a stage part with the touring company of Porgy and Bess, after Etta Moten Barnett suggested he try out. On tour, William Warfield praised his performances and asked that Peters understudy him as Porgy.
Beyond film
In 1970, Peters gave the voice of Jack Johnson, the African-American boxer, in a Bill Cayton film with that title. That part is why he can be heard at the close of Miles Davis' Jack Johnson soundtrack album.
