Plot summary
Patrick Hodges, once the Putnam Badgers' quarterback, now works in Chicago, where he is unofficially engaged to Ashley Sinclair, a senator's daughter. His old friends bring him home for Thanksgiving by telling him Mitchell died in a car accident. Back in Putnam, a scuffle outside the Badger Hole, the bar his former teammate Fat Jack runs, ends with Patrick arrested for pushing Ronnie Best, the rival Noble Knights' former quarterback and now a land developer, through a glass door. Judge Tibbins, a former Putnam coach, releases him on one condition: he finishes the Turkey Bowl, the game between the two schools that a snowstorm cut short in the second half fifteen years earlier. His teammates bet Ronnie the bar on the result, and Patrick meets his former girlfriend Jennifer Harrison, who works for Ronnie.
