Plot summary
Stephen Seary is a successful stage designer, and a major opera contract is waiting for him in Europe. He travels back to Australia, to the small town where he grew up, to say his goodbyes to his dying mother, intending to stay only briefly. The visit does not go to plan. Family responsibilities pile up, his relationship with his father is difficult, and old friends and past lovers are part of the town. Chaos and drama follow, with funny moments mixed in, and Stephen spends the trip trying to get back to Europe for the opera that awaits him.
