Plot summary
Amanda Quaid works as a dance hall girl in San Francisco in 1882 and longs for an easier life. She hears that Josiah Widdicombe, a Mormon millionaire, needs a governess with good manners for his children, and the interview requires $65 for clothes she does not have. Gambler Charlie Malloy, known as the Dirtwater Fox, invites her to his hotel room, and she finds a satchel of money he took from the Bloodworth gang by cheating them in a bank robbery. Amanda drugs him, takes the satchel, buys an outfit and wins the post with Widdicombe under the name Duchess of Swansbury.
