Plot summary
A graduation beach party leaves a group of friends asleep on the sand, their phones locked in a car trunk so no compromising pictures reach the internet. Kaylee and Mitch wake in the lifeguard shack; Jonah wakes in a convertible beside Chanda; Gilbert wakes with his lower body trapped inside a waste container; Marsha wakes on a picnic table. Everyone who slept on the sand itself, Heather among them, has vanished. Kaylee watches a bird get pulled under the beach, and thin tendrils rise from the sand toward her hand.
