Plot summary
Maia Marten works as a prosecutor in London and is the mother of Noah, a diabetic boy. On the morning when she is due at court, where the crime boss Tommy Boyd is on trial, she leaves Noah at school and goes running. A call from Noah's phone puts an unnamed man on the line. He says he has taken the boy and works for Boyd, and that he has hacked her phone, so she cannot call for help. At a dumpster she recovers her son's backpack, and with it a gun linked to Boyd. The boy, the caller says, lies in a diabetic coma caused through his insulin pump. Her target is Radian Tafa, a witness kept at the Excelsus Hotel under police guard. If she fails inside the hour, the caller says, Noah will die.
