Plot summary
In March 2018, during the war in Afghanistan, a Taliban truck bomb catches Master Sergeant John Kinley and his Special Forces unit off guard at a vehicle checkpoint in Lashkargah and kills the interpreter who rides with them. Ahmed Abdullah takes the empty place, and the soldiers take against him. He says he signed on only for the money; he once moved opium for the Taliban and left them after his son was murdered. Taliban fighters, helped by a compromised Afghan National Army soldier, then lay a trap for the team, and Ahmed is the one who sees it first.
