The Prodigies (2011) on Netflix

Plot summary

As a boy, Jimbo Farrar had powers he could not control; an outburst of them cost him his parents, and he went from a mental hospital into billionaire Charles Killian's care. Twenty years on, Jimbo researches at the Killian Foundation for Gifted Children and creates an online game to seek out people with supernatural abilities. When five teenagers hack it, he shuts the game down and receives a message asking where he is. Charles Killian dies, and the foundation passes to his daughter Melanie and her second-in-command Jenkins, who want the game scrapped in favor of a television show. To keep searching for gifted people, Jimbo proposes a televised contest, American Genius, and five teenagers, Gil, Liza, Lee, Harry and Sammy, are picked to take part.
