Plot summary
The Oms of Ygam are small humans, descendants of people brought there from Earth, and the giant blue Draags who rule the planet treat them as animals. Some are kept as pets, while others live in the wilderness, where Draags hunt them to control their numbers. When three Draag children kill an Om woman, a Draag leader and his daughter Tiwa take in her orphaned infant, and Tiwa names him Terr. She gives him a collar she can pull him with, and when he accompanies her to lessons delivered through a headset that feeds knowledge into her mind, a defect in the collar lets him absorb the same knowledge. Terr grows into a young man with much Draag learning and escapes into the wilderness with Tiwa's headset.

- The film inspired the design of the video game Pikmin, the band Failure named their third album after it in 1996, rapper Mac Miller used its soundtrack in his 2014 song "Insomniak" from the mixtape Faces, and hip-hop artist Madlib cites it as an influence.
- Two of the film's tracks, "Terr et Tiwa Dorment" and "Méditation des Enfants", appear in enhanced editions of Grand Theft Auto V on the FlyLo FM radio station, but no credits are given referring to them.
