Plot summary
Claude races across Perdide with his son Piel. He sends his friend Jaffar a message that giant hornets have killed his wife, Anne. Their vehicle crashes and Claude cannot free himself, so he lowers Piel out, hands him an interstellar transceiver named Mike, and tells him to go to the Dolongs, a forest the hornets avoid. Jaffar receives the last message aboard the Double Triangle 22 and decides to collect Silbad, who knows how to live on Perdide, from the planet Devil's Ball. Jaffar's passengers, Prince Matton and Princess Belle, have lost their planet, and the prince is carrying treasure.
