Plot summary
Queen Margaret Delacourt of Montenaro and Princess Stacy Wyndham of Belgravia are preparing an international Christmas festival, and its centerpiece is a sacred relic called the Star of Peace, on loan from the Vatican. Thieves break into the palace and take it. The two royals turn to Margaret's cousin, Lady Fiona Pembroke. Fiona, whose probation has her doing custodial work at an orphanage, agrees to help in exchange for Margaret speaking on her behalf when a disciplinary board reviews her case. She consults her ex-boyfriend, Peter Maxwell, a former Interpol investigator who runs a private security firm, and the two begin planning how to recover the Star.
