Plot summary

In Not-Cursed, a city within the region of Abaddon, Apollyon keeps watch over his workers, and one of them disappears. Christian learns that the missing man, Faithful, has left for the Celestial City beyond the borders. A nightmare haunts Christian that night. He reads a book he had found in Faithful's office and takes its words as true. He warns his wife and children that the city will be destroyed and urges them to run with him, but his wife calls the book fiction and will not go. Christian sets out alone on the path Faithful took. Evangelist tells him to keep going and not turn aside. Pliable, attracted by the promise of wonders, walks with him, but the Swamp of Despondency breaks his resolve and he leaves; Help pulls Christian free and says worse lies ahead.
