Plot summary
The state is totalitarian, and control over every part of life rests with a figure called the Director. Enemies of the state are treated in the harshest way, and most of them are killed by assassins who work for the government in secret. Condor is the best of those operatives, an elite agent and a hit man. His latest assignment is an opposition leader he is meant to terminate, and the attempt fails, a failure blamed on his emotional instability. After that he is a fugitive, and the same agency that once gave him his orders is the one hunting him.
