Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Battleship (2012)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Universal came close to canceling Battleship outright, which would have cost the studio $30 million. New chairman Adam Fogelson concluded the studio would lose less money by raising the budget and making it than by killing it.
- The gamble did not pay off: against a budget of $209-220 million the film took $303 million worldwide, leaving Universal and Hasbro about $150 million down and ranking it among the biggest box-office bombs ever made.
- The aliens' theme is built from the noise of a hospital scanner. Peter Berg told composer Steve Jablonsky that an MRI he had had for his neck sounded terrifying and made him think of the aliens, so Jablonsky went and recorded MRI machines and made music out of them.
- Lieutenant Colonel Mick Canales is played by double amputee U.S. Army Colonel Gregory Gadson, who had never acted before. Peter Berg cast him after seeing a photograph of him in National Geographic.
- Rihanna made her acting debut here because Peter Berg decided she could act after watching her on Saturday Night Live; she took the sailor role because she wanted to do something badass.
