Plot summary
In the late 1980s, Rory and Allison O'Hara live in New York City with their children, Samantha and Benjamin, and Allison teaches horseback riding while Rory trades. Rory believes his chances at home are limited, so he talks Allison into moving to London, where he hopes to work again for his former employer, Arthur Davis. Allison has doubts, yet the family takes a large old house in Surrey, has her horse, Richmond, brought over, and enrolls the children at separate schools. Rory begins building a stable on the property and takes Allison to dinners with Arthur and his colleagues. The remote house and the separate commutes make getting the children to school on time hard.
