Plot summary
Andoheb, a high priest of Karnak, hands over the care of the mummy Kharis to his follower Mehemet Bey, with instructions for the tanna leaves that rouse the creature and the task of avenging the desecration of Princess Ananka's tomb thirty years earlier. Bey and Kharis leave Egypt for Mapleton, Massachusetts, where Bey takes a caretaker's job at the cemetery and brews the leaves at the full moon. Dr. John Banning, whose father led the expedition that opened the tomb, lives in the town with his girlfriend, Isobel Evans. Babe Hanson, another member of that party, arrives in Mapleton. The sheriff and coroner look for an explanation.
