Plot summary
Phil Grenville and four classmates, Melissa, Mary, Mitch and Vinnie, plan a Halloween they will not forget in the small Massachusetts town of Pitchford Cove. In the local witchcraft museum they take costumes and old artifacts, among them a trunk that holds a scroll marked with an ancient curse. Melissa, who carries latent sorcery, speaks the curse aloud in the cemetery. The dead climb out of their graves and roam the town, led by Lucinda Cavender, Melissa's ancestor and a witch executed three hundred years before. At the annual costume party a girl named Sandy Matthews, wearing a 1950s cheerleader uniform, tells Phil that Pitchford Cove is in danger.
