Kenneth Harlan

Biography

Kenneth Harlan was an American actor who became a popular romantic lead and adventurer in silent films. Born in Boston, he started on stage at seven and worked in vaudeville before he entered motion pictures in 1916 as a leading man for D.W. Griffith. His 25-year career took in 200 features and serials. He appeared opposite Constance Talmadge, Lois Weber, Mary Pickford, Katherine MacDonald, and Anna May Wong, showed skill in both drama and comedy, and made several westerns. He had leading roles in the serials Finger Prints (1931) and Danger Island (1931). Harlan moved into sound films, even singing in a few, but his roles grew smaller, mostly supporting or character parts. He continued working into the 1940s and retired in 1963. He died in 1967.
