Plot summary
Four years ago Ray Pye shot two young women at a campground, and Jen and Tim, his friends, helped him cover it up. No one has arrested him. Now he manages a motel, and Detective Charlie Schilling and Ed Anderson, Charlie's former partner, are sure of what he did but have never proved it. Charlie decides it is time to act. Katherine Wallace is new in town, and she and Ray are a volatile pair. Ed Anderson is much older than Sally Richmond, and they spend the summer together. Sally takes a job at the motel Ray runs, and Ray takes notice of her.
