Plot summary
At a psychiatric center in Saskatoon, Dr. Arnold interviews Karla Homolka for a parole evaluation. He shows her a photo album of her life with Paul Bernardo, and she remembers their first meeting. When he asks about her younger sister, Tammy Homolka, Karla stops cooperating. Over the following weeks the doctor presses her about Paul's hidden life as a rapist. Karla recalls that Paul began attacking women before their marriage, and that he wanted her to help him assault Tammy on camera. She stole Halcion from her workplace, a veterinary clinic. At a Christmas party Tammy drank heavily, and the couple drugged her. Paul assaulted her, and she choked while sedated. Karla telephoned for help, but Tammy did not survive, and the two concealed the assault so the death looked accidental. Paul then beat Karla.

- A lawyer representing the victims' families watched a private screening of the film in September with the families in attendance; the following month he announced that the families would not oppose the film's Canadian release.
- The film was originally titled Deadly but was retitled Karla before its release, and its script was built from court transcriptions, interviews and video shot by the two killers themselves.
