Plot summary
Samantha Hughes is a college student who needs money, and she answers a classified ad for a babysitting position placed by a man named Mr. Ulman. Her friend Megan drives her out to the Ulmans' house, which stands on its own in a remote spot. There Mr. Ulman tells her the advertisement was misleading: there is no child in the house, only his wife's mother, and she would be needed overnight. Samantha hesitates, but he offers four hundred dollars, and she accepts. The night is 1983, and a full lunar eclipse occurs while she is there. Megan heads home, leaving Samantha by herself in the house.
