Biography
Ti West is an American filmmaker and actor known for his work in horror. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, he studied at the School of Visual Arts, where his professor Kelly Reichardt connected him with Larry Fessenden, who served as his mentor and backed his first two films. West directed The Roost (2005) and The House of the Devil (2009), along with other horror features such as Trigger Man (2007), The Innkeepers (2011), and The Sacrament (2013). He also made the Western In a Valley of Violence (2016). As an actor, he has appeared in films, mostly his own or those of Joe Swanberg. He directed X (2022) and Pearl (2022), both of which earned critical acclaim, and has directed episodes of television including MTV's Scream and South of Hell.

A role that slipped away
West disowned the 2009 horror film Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever, saying there had been massive interference and re-editing. He asked that his name be taken off the film and the directing credit go to Alan Smithee, but he was turned down.
Early training
At the School of Visual Arts, West met Larry Fessenden through his professor Kelly Reichardt. Fessenden mentored West and provided funding for his first two films, The Roost and Trigger Man.
A role that slipped away
West was going to direct The Haunting in Georgia, which was the sequel to The Haunting in Connecticut. He walked away from the project in March 2010.
Beyond film
West directed the music video for Justin Timberlake's single "No Angels." The song came out on March 15, 2024, and served as the second single off Timberlake's sixth studio album, Everything I Thought It Was.
Behind the camera
West wrote, produced and directed Dead & Lonely, a web series for IFC Films, in 2009. The first run of the series ended that October.
