Plot summary
Mike Blake, an American paratrooper, is cut off behind German lines during World War II when he meets a man named Paul Rona, who is carrying a valise. Inside is a bejeweled gauntlet, a stolen religious relic. A bomb blast knocks Blake out, and Rona runs off without the valise. A countess and her household take Blake in, and her butler keeps the valise for him to collect later. Years on, with his finances in trouble, Blake comes to Paris to retrieve the glove. A stranger tails him, and he asks Chris Kenneth, a tour guide on the Eiffel Tower, to help him lose the man. Police later question him about a dead man found in his hotel room, and Blake and Chris leave the city together.
