Plot summary
An Egyptologist, Professor Henry Morlant, holds that a jewel he names the Eternal Light will restore his youth if it is offered to the god Anubis. He dies at his manor before the offering, and his clubfooted servant Laing makes off with the stone. Word of it draws a crowd: Broughton, the professor's solicitor; Nigel Hartley, a false parson; Sheikh Aga Ben Dragore, who once sold Morlant the jewel; and the two heirs, his niece Betty Harlon and his nephew Ralph Morlant, with Betty's flatmate Miss Kaney. Morlant had said that the full moon striking his tomb door would bring him back.

- The Ghoul disappeared and was considered a lost film until 1969, when collector William K. Everson found a murky, virtually inaudible Czech-subtitled copy called Běs in then-communist Czechoslovakia, missing eight minutes including two violent murder scenes and thought to be the only surviving copy.
- The Ghoul was the only film Boris Karloff made during a brief contract dispute with Universal Studios, and it marked the first time in over two decades that he had acted in Britain and the British film industry.
