Plot summary
Christian Nielsen, a recovering alcoholic, has been living in the United States. He returns to Australia where his father, Henry, is about to marry Anna, who has worked as Henry's housekeeper and is much younger than he is. Christian's relationship with his father is strained. He believes Henry did not properly look after his mother during her illness, and he does not approve of the marriage. Back in town, Christian meets up with Oliver, the friend he grew up with. Oliver stayed to work at Henry's timber mill and is now without a job. Christian gets to know Oliver's wife Charlotte, their daughter Hedvig, and Oliver's father Walter, in a logging town that is winding down.
