Nicholas Hope
Biography
Nicholas Hope, who was born in Manchester and raised in Whyalla, South Australia, is an Australian actor, director and acting teacher. He began in live performance as a bass guitarist in rock bands, then worked in stage productions for the State Theatre Company of South Australia before his breakthrough as the lead in Rolf de Heer's Bad Boy Bubby (1993), a role that brought him best actor honors at the Australian Film Institute Awards and the Venice Film Festival. Later credits include The Goddess of 1967 (2000), Scooby-Doo (2002), Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid (2004), The Daughter (2015), The School (2018), The Invisible Man (2020), The Drover's Wife (2021) and Limbo (2023), the last earning him a Film Critics Circle of Australia supporting actor nomination. He also appeared in the miniseries Changi, Gallipoli and Picnic at Hanging Rock, and has written and directed plays and short films.
