Plot summary
Eric Erickson is an American-born Swedish oil executive. British agent Collins and other Allied intelligence agents press him to spy inside Nazi Germany. He agrees reluctantly, because otherwise the Allies will destroy his business, and Collins keeps a recording of the meeting. The assignment makes him pose as a Nazi and brings discord into his marriage. One of his contacts in Germany is Marianne Möllendorf, a religious Christian woman whose guidance concerns the meaning of life and the difference between right and wrong.
