Plot summary
Jen and Mel met in their twenties after learning they had both been seeing the same man, Joe. Now they run The Breaker Upperers, an Auckland business that ends relationships for clients who would rather not do it themselves; among their methods, they pose as police officers to tell a woman named Anna that her husband has died. Jen still carries a torch for Joe, who has returned to town with a wife and children, while Mel takes an interest in Jordan, a teenage client who wants out of a relationship with a fearsome girlfriend, Sepa. Their work brings Jen and Mel back into contact with Anna, and Mel begins to question the ethics of the business, which Jen sees nothing wrong with.
