Plot summary
In a California mining town, Tennessee is a gambler who wins often at the card table, which makes him enemies. His only uneasy tie is to Duchess, who runs a bordello, and he has no other friends. Clifford, who had lost money to him, ambushes him one night, and a lonesome cowpoke who calls himself Cowpoke comes to his rescue. Cowpoke has arrived to meet his fiancée, Goldie, when her riverboat docks. He gives her $5,000 in gold. Tennessee knows Goldie from his past, and her arrival brings an undercurrent between the two.
