Plot summary
In 1942, Navy lieutenant Kenneth Braden has just finished frogman training when he is ordered away on a mission and has no way to reach Sally Johnson, the woman he has been seeing. The task is to photograph the code book of a Japanese radio station on the island of Kusaie, going in and out without the Japanese ever knowing anyone was there. Commander Paul Stevenson, whose crew is still shaken by a death on his last patrol, is to bring Braden in by submarine and wait for him in Lelu Harbor. Stevenson captains his boat strictly by his orders, and he and Braden get off on the wrong foot.
