Plot summary
Willie Boy, a Paiute man, and Carlota, the woman he loves, go on the run in 1909 after her father is shot in a confrontation that goes wrong. Willie Boy fired the shot, and the death is called an accident, but blame falls on the young couple, and the two of them travel on foot across the desert country. A group of indigenous people pursues them, among them Native American trackers looking for justice for the death of a tribal leader. The local sheriff, Wilson, leads the posse, and the search coincides with preparations for a visit by President Taft.
