Plot summary
Elliot Teichberg works at the El Monaco Resort, the rundown motel his parents Jake and Sonia own in Bethel, New York, and hopes to make his living as an interior designer in Greenwich Village. A troupe of hippie performers, the Earthlight Players, rents the barn and pays almost nothing, and the bank is pressing the family to pay the mortgage before the summer ends. Elliot, who heads the local chamber of commerce, holds a one-dollar permit for a small music festival of his own. When the Woodstock organizers meet opposition at their planned site, he offers them the permit and rooms, and organizer Michael Lang accepts. A neighbor, Max Yasgur, offers his farmland for the concert.
