Plot summary

In the fall of 2008, while rehearsing for a charity event, the Oscar-nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix tells the people around him that he is quitting film work to reinvent himself as a rap musician. The announcement, made while a camera films, surprises Hollywood. Through the year that follows he writes lyrics, rehearses his songs and performs them for an audience, and he approaches Sean Combs in the hope that the rap artist will produce his record. The camera also shows him at home, where he parties and smokes, keeps a two-man entourage around him, engages in depravity, debates philosophy and rants about celebrity.
